Beautiful map of East Frisia and its important shipping center of Emden and the Watten Islands. An inset shows the region inundated by the great flood on Christmas Day, 1277. Finely adorned with cartouches, animals, Neptune, sea monsters, ships, surveyors, a compass rose and two elaborate coats of arms. Engraved by Hondius from the cartography of Ubbo Emmius, a local cartographer and historian (1547-1625). This plate was among those purchased by Blaeu in 1629 after the death of Jodocus Hondius, and reissued with his imprint added to the right of the scale of miles. Latin text on verso.
