Issued by Rand McNally & Co. for Sun Oil Company (Sunoco), this fun pictorial map highlights the state's history. The city and vicinity is detailed in a large inset at top left, while the rest of the map covers upstate. Throughout the landscape, historical events are located with charming little illustrations, including the purchase of Manhattan, Burgoyne's surrender at Saratoga Springs, Clara Barton founding the first chapter of the Red Cross, the invention of baseball in Cooperstown, and much more. There are also illustrations of architecture, recreation, universities, and the state's natural beauty, with an emphasis on waterfalls. This later edition has been redesigned for a more minimal visual design. The map is enclosed by a scroll border with descriptions of notable locations along the top and bottom. On verso are smaller maps showing the state's roads, New York City and vicinity, and Albany. Self-folding into pictorial covers (3.7 x 7.0") with the alternate title: Road Map and Historical Guide New York.
