This large promotional broadside entitled "Best Enterprise in the West" was produced by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa-Fe Railroad. It features a map of Kansas showing the company's extensive land grants following the railroad path from Topeka westward through the Cottonwood and Arkansas river valleys. The text offers glowing reports on the agricultural potential of the land and is illustrated by four regional views. The verso contains a second map covering much of the United States presenting the railroad and its proposed routes to California entitled Atchison Topeka & Santa-Fe Railroad and Connections with 3.000.000. Acres Land for Sale... (26.1 x 7.4") along with additional views and text. On a full sheet of text measuring 43.1 x 28.3". This elaborate broadside exemplifies the role of railroads in promoting westward expansion in both Kansas and the western United States more broadly.
