Speed's elaborate map of Sussex features a small bird's-eye plan of Chichester and a vignette battle scene. The map is handsomely embellished with the Royal Coat of Arms, the title appearing on the pages of a book, and several strapwork cartouches at bottom encompassing the distance scale, a brief history of the county, and coats of arms of important families. The British Sea is filled with ships and sea monsters. English text on verso with a list of towns and additional information on the county. Engraved by Jodocus Hondius and published by John Sudbury and George Humble.

Attractive color on watermarked paper with moderate to heavy toning, two 1" centerfold separations, and minor extraneous creasing. There is paper tape along the edges of the sheet on verso.
