It presents reproductions of authentic maps from the first three centuries of the mapping of North America reflecting an unfolding story of daring exploration, tenacious settlement, and fierce colonial rivalry. 320 pp. containing 180 extensively captioned maps, nearly all in full-color and over 90 supplementary illustrations. A richly illustrated history of the discovery and exploration of North America from the voyages of the Vikings to the expeditions to the West. Folio, 254 pp. with more than 350 illustrations, both maps and engravings, several in color. Hardbound in simulated brown leather with gilt title on front cover and spine, with dust jacket. Condition: Contents near fine less a little edge soiling on lower foredge from thumbing. Covers bumped on spine, dust jacket with some insignificant edge tears. (B+)
