"Carte des Cotes de Malabar et de Coromandel…", Delisle/Schenk
Period: 1733 (circa)
Color: Hand Color
22.5 x 18 inches
57.2 x 45.7 cm
A striking map of southern India showing the Malabar Coast, the Gulf of Cambaye and the mouth of the Ganges. It extends to the Lakshadweep Islands, a portion of the Maldives and the northern tip of Sri Lanka. Cities, trade routes and topography are detailed with notes on the Dutch and English colonies along the coast. A pair of deftly engraved compass roses and a decorative cartouche complete the composition.
Fine impression and superb original color. The bottom corners have been expertly and invisibly restored with a bit of neatline in facsimile.
