"Olney's School Atlas", Olney, A. N.
Period: 1844 (published)
Color: Hand Color
9.8 x 12 inches
24.9 x 30.5 cm
The finest example of this atlas we've seen. The double hemisphere world map includes quaint little vignettes throughout, such as Indians and buffalo in North America, lions and elephants in Africa, a pagoda in China and a kangaroo in Australia. The U.S. map has Mexico in control of the Southwest and the Oregon Territory border extends well into British Columbia. An Independent Texas is featured on two maps including the double-page U.S. map. Maps are printed one side only and are hand-colored.
Paper covers are near fine, with only light bumping at top, some surface soil and tide mark at one corner. Red leather spine. Most maps with very light foxing, a few short splits. Overall very good.
