This is the second state of Stoopendaal's double hemisphere from a Dutch Bible based on Visscher's similar map of 1663 and surrounded by allegorical representations of the continents. It has been updated here to show California as an Island with a flat northern coastline, Australia's western and northern coastlines, a revision in the coastline for New Guinea, and the addition of some islands in the South Pacific. Diagrams of the Copernican and Ptolemaic solar systems rest between the hemispheres.

References: cf Shirley #498.

Condition: B

Slightly weak impression with a few light spots. Professional repair of folds with side margins extended to accommodate framing, as Bible maps typically are found with damaged side margins.

Estimate: $1,500 - $1,600
