A finely engraved early 19th century reproduction John Smith's famous map of Virginia. This was one of the most influential maps ever produced. It records the locations of numerous Indian villages. It is beautifully decorated with vignettes of Chief Powhatan, a warrior, coats of arms, a striking compass rose, a ship and sea monsters. The map is an extremely nice example, finely engraved on good quality paper and from an early southern publication. The original issue of John Smith's map sells in the range of $20,000.
