Very early examples of cartoon art. Each sheet consists of a series of scenes with text below each panel, which tells a moral story. They were originally developed in France by the Imagerie d'Epinal and published in America by the Humoristic Publishing Co., possibly for distribution at Sunday schools. They provide a fascinating view of mid-19th century moral views. Lot contains: Julian the Coward; Master Unfortunate; The Proud Matilda; The Museum of Little Children; Blonda and Fairy Caprice. Paper is a bit fragile as they are printed on early newsprint, but unblemished with bright colors printed on one side only.
