"A New and Accurate Map of The World Drawn & Engraved from the Best Authorities", Gibson, John
Period: 1760 (circa)
Color: Hand Color
10.5 x 6 inches
26.7 x 15.2 cm
A charming small double hemisphere map set against a background of allegorical figures with an ornate title cartouche. Tucked between the hemispheres at bottom is a diagram of the solar system. The northwest coast of North America is incomplete and labeled "parts Undiscovered." Only the western part of Australia is mapped, along with a bit of "Diemens Land".
Acid burned from improper framing. Masking tape around edges on verso. Couple of tiny breaks in paper. Though still attractive, it needs the care of a conservator.
