A fabulous large map on four sheets joined. The double hemisphere show all the new discoveries with the tracks of the English voyages of exploration. Surrounding the hemispheres are panels of English text and diagrams of the solar system, the celestial northern and southern hemispheres, solar tables, a universal navigational scale, a chart of the world on Mercator's projection, and map of the moon's surface after Father Riccioli. This map was first issued in 1787 for Robert Sayer's General Atlas. This example was reissued by Lauri & Whittle.
Original color, lightly refreshed. Expert and very skilled replacement of paper at right joint, with a few lines of facsimile, and some minor tears repaired. Overall a very fine and clean example.
