A map showing the route of a reconnaissance in 1849 in red and Lt. Whiting's route in blue. The routes are primarily in west Texas and the southern Rio Grande valley of New Mexico. It includes topography and hydrography in the vicinity of the routes.

Issued folding, now backed with archival tissue. Toning along some folds, tiny loss at fold intersection and soft creases at lower middle.
