"Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas of the World…", Johnson, A. J.

A very nice and complete example with tight binding and most of the maps in very good to fine condition. The atlas is a very early 1866 edition as the maps generally are from the 1865 edition. The map "California, also Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona" still shows Arizona controlling southern Nevada. All of the maps are clean with good color. A light marginal stain at right and bottom affects only a few maps and in any event doesn't detract. Covers are tight with leather spine and corners, and gold embossed titling. Corners bumped and some loss of leather on spine. Complete except for the list of maps page. Includes original "To the Subscribers" notice, tissue guard over the frontice engraving, and the additional map titled "Map of the Vicinity of Richmond."
