Publication: Cornelis Nozeman's "Nederlandsche Vogelen" (Birds from the Netherlands)
Color: Hand Color
12.7 x 20 inches
32.3 x 50.8 cm
Fine, original hand colored engraving from this early landmark natural history work, which is considered the most beautiful book produced on the avi-fauna of the Netherlands. The gray stork is featured in a rather stiff, yet charming, composition that is typical of the Dutch style during this period. It is splendidly engraved with beautifully and intricately applied original color. The print has been professionally conserved, repairing a couple of small tears in the margins. Ref: Fine Bird Books 1700-1900, by Sacheverell Sitwell who calls the Sepp-Nozeman engravings "an ornament of the age of Rococo".
