This is one of the few maps included in the Civitates Orbis Terrarum covering cities outside of Europe. It features cities important to European trade with Asia. The folio sheet contains four plans on the sheet. The largest top view provides a panoramic view of the important Portuguese port of Calcutta, India At bottom the three smaller plans are Ormus, the main market of the Persian Gulf; Canonor, situated on the coast of Malabar; and St. George, a gold mine in Guinea. Each is beautifully rendered and features sailing ships, native boats, scenes of ship building, fishing, and working Asian elephants.
