Part of a finely executed Book of Hours from the North Netherlands. In the 17th century these books were often split up and bound in parts due to the expense of owning an entire book. This charming book contains the prayers to arma Christi; the hours of Eternal Wisdom; the hours of the Holy Spirit; the Office of the Dead; and prayers to Mary, the Guardian Angel, Gregory, Philip, John the Evangelist, Catharine, Barbara, Anna and all saints. It is beautifully illuminated with five large (5 or more lines) and 21 smaller (3 or 4 lines) initials in gold, red and blue, with very superb penwork in the Delft style; alternating lombards majuscels in red and blue. Latin; littera textualis, 58 vellum pages; 68 x 95 mm. Justification 39 x 52 mm. Leather binding, ca. 1700, corners worn, some gold stamps, guilt edged. Book block loose. Except for the first page, which is a bit thumbed, a very well preserved booklet.
