Superb double folio map covering all of the region surrounding the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian and Red seas. Jaillot, originally a sculptor, went into partnership with Sanson's sons after his marriage to the daughter of Nicolas Berey. From about 1669 he began re-engraving and enlarging Sanson's maps. This is an fine example of his work with Sanson's cartography and Jaillot's more crisp and flourishing style. Inset of North Africa. Magnificent title cartouche featuring soldiers, trumpeting angels, flags and the coat of arms. Another fine cartouche displays six distance scales and is embellished with two soldiers and an array of weapons.
