A very attractive map of the American Southwest and Mexico. California is "New Albion" with no detail outside of a few coastal place names. The region of present-day Arizona and New Mexico is well delineated with numerous Indian villages and the locations of mission. From New Mexico to Louisiana is "Great Space of Land unknown". Texas is identified as "New Kingdom of Leon". Inset of Mexico City on the large Lake of Mexico. The map was first published in 1777; this being from the tenth edition. Includes a photocopy of the title sheet. Finely engraved with a decorative title cartouche and compass rose.
