This is a fine set of wood engravings published in German by Friedrich von Hellwald. Some of them are the same engravings seen in the American publication "Picturesque America" and others we have not seen before. Each is a full page engraving, blank of verso. They are great 19th century views of the western United States including San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Indians attacking a stage, a Wells Fargo Stage, Mt. Shasta, Marble Canyon and numerous more. They are not bound, but enclosed in the original paper wrappers which were evidently issued as a serial subscription. Sold as a collection of plates, not intended as the complete issues.
