Very decorative map of Peru and parts of Equador and northern Chile. Dense with place names and embellished with sailing ships, sea monsters, and two large cartouches with native peoples, animals and mermaids. The map is oriented with north to the left and the compass rose incorrectly depicts north at top. A previous owner has very neatly corrected this error on the compass rose with an explanation in the margin which reads "N.B. The Flower-de-luce in the Compafs-Hand of the Map was placed upon the Eaft Quarter". This is in light brown ink, and a very fine manuscript hand. It does not detract, but rather adds an interesting feature to the already lovely map. Attractive original color.
