This is the complete four-volume set of auction catalog's for PBA Galleries' sale of the Warren Heckrotte collection. Heckrotte (1922-2019) was a physicist and nuclear expert who developed an interest in map collecting in the 1960s, amassing a legendary collection focused on western America and the northern Pacific and making significant contributions to map scholarship. PBA Galleries auction of his material was divided into four parts: Part I: Exploration & Early Approaches (202 lots); Part II: California and the Way Thither (235 lots); Part III: Filling in the Gaps (203 lots); and Part IV: Maps & Books, with the Reference Library & Supporting Material (435 lots). Each lot has an informative description and estimates. The volumes are heavily illustrated, with many images in full color.
