A. Collecting Antique Maps - An Introduction to the History of Cartography, by Jonathan Potter, published 1999, printed color (8.9 x 12.1"). This is the second revised edition of this very nice introduction to collecting antique maps. Text and illustrations, many in color, cover all parts of the world from about 1500 to 1850. The book is divided into five sections: Looking at Maps introduces the basics of antique maps and collecting; Mapping the World and Its Countries; Globes, Curiosities and Miniatures; Nineteenth Century Cartography (new to this edition); and Map Collecting Today, also new to this edition, provides information and resources to novice and experienced collectors alike. Hardbound in green with gilt title on spine. Illustrated dust jacket. 207 pages. Condition: A few minor scuffs to dust jacket, otherwise like new. (A)

B. Christie's Collectors Guides - Antique Maps, by Carl Moreland and David Bannister, published 1989, black & white (7.7 x 10.0"). This is the third edition of this invaluable reference that covers map-making, cartographers, and collecting. The books lays out the history of map-making methods from the late 15th century onwards. Brief biographies of the major map-makers are included. It also provides advice for the collector on the practical aspects of collecting and care. Illustrations in B&W (160) and color (8) in 326 pages. Hardbound in green buckram with a dust jacket. Signed by the authors. Condition: Contents are fine. Covers have a hint of shelf wear and a slightly bumped corner. Dust jacket is price clipped with a short tear. (A)

C. Maps - A Historical Survey of Their Study and Collecting - Illustrated Edition, by R.A. Skelton, published 1975, black & white (5.3 x 8.0"). This compact and thought-provoking volume originated in Skelton's series of lectures at the Newberry Library and focuses on the history of cartography and how it has evolved as a field of study. 138 pages. Soft illustrated covers. Condition: Contents are near fine. Covers have light shelf wear. (B+)
