This inventive engraving was drawn by Johann Degler and engraved by Joseph a Montelegre, and is an allegorical representation of the people, customs, and manners of the Abyssinians and Ethiopians. The engraving is centered on the Abyssinian Emperor, surrounded by his court and splendid tents. At right is a church with Catholic figures and the caption: "The schismatic patriarch is most hated by Catholics, but is held in the greatest veneration by Abyssinians." The cartouche at bottom explains that the Portuguese established the Catholic religion in Abyssinia, and that today the Dutch carry on their trade there. In the background are several battle scenes, the legendary Mount Amara, and a gold mine.
