This decorative county map of Warwickshire is from John Speed’s important English atlas. It divides the county into hundreds and locates towns and cities, parks, forests, rivers, and more. One of the more famous towns on the map is Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare's birthplace. In the top corners are detailed city plans of Warwick and Coventry. The map is further decorated by various coats of arms for past Earls of Warwick, a small vignette depicting the 1469 Battle of Edgecote, an elegant title cartouche, compass rose, and distance scale with dividers. Engraved by Jodocus Hondius. Published by Basset & Chiswell in 1676. English text on verso.
