This striking, colorful WWII "Invasion Map of Fortress Europe Commemorating D-Day" chronicles major events in the war up to July 1944, with the most recent events being "U.S. Troops Invade Saipan June 14-44. Occupied July 9-44," the "White Line - Battle Line July 26 -44" in Russia, and "Japan Bombed June 15-44 and July 6-44 by B-29 Super-Fortress." There are several battleships in the oceans, and Japanese planes are shown swarming above Hawaii to mark the attack on Pearl Harbor. An inset at bottom left shows the recent invasion of France, which began in June of that year. The legend at bottom right identifies the naval bases of the various countries involved in the effort and uses color-coding to indicate which countries are part of the Axis (green), conquered by the Axis (gray), former Axis countries conquered by the U.S. and Britain (red), and neutral (white). Two compass rose-like diagrams at bottom show the distance and direction of various cities relative to Berlin and Tokyo. The bottom margin lists this as the 19th Edition in this popular series. The map was issued as a promotional piece for National Escrow Corporation in Burbank. Printed by Gettier-Montaine, Inc. in Baltimore. Produced by C.C. Petersen Advertising in Toronto.
