This German map of the Americas was engraved by Franz Pluth in Prague. It reaches from Baffin Bay south to Tierra del Fuego and extends east to the Azores. There is good detail throughout except in the northwestern regions of North America, which are left largely blank save for some speculative mountain ranges and a few rivers. The United States is depicted with its new acquisition of Louisiana Territory but still confined to east of the Rocky Mountains. Texas (likely a reference to the Tecas or Caddo Indians) is noted as a settlement within Mexico. In far northern Canada, the discoveries of Mackenzie and Hearne are noted along the "Polar Sea." The South American continent is very well mapped and filled with detail, while a maelstrom (Malstrom Ungewiss) in the Atlantic Ocean is positioned well off the Lesser Antilles. The map is adorned with a simple oval title cartouche.
