An excellent study of American cartographic developments presented in 75 selected maps made between 1474 and 1825. These maps provide a unique view of an important stage in the growth of America. Each map has an accompanying essay describing its background and historical importance. Illustrated in black & white, 299 pages. Original hardbound in black cloth with gilt titling on front cover and spine. Compiled and edited by Emerson D. Fite & Archibald Freeman, Harvard University Press. This is the first edition of 1926, not to be confused with the 1969 reprint.

Text is faintly toned, and there is binding tape along the gutter at the start of the index. Text block is cracked in one place but is still intact. Covers are good with light chipping and fraying along the edges.
