This lot includes three Sotheby's catalogs in four volumes, each with cartographic interest. Each volume is handsomely produced with brief, informative catalogue descriptions, estimates, and illustrations. Previous owner has included print-outs of the results. The lot includes:
A. [Two Volumes] The Wardington Library Important Atlases & Geographies Part One: A-K and Part Two: L-Z, published 2005-06, printed color. These volumes cover the sale of the collection of bibliophile Lord Wardington (Christopher Henry Beaumont Pease, 1924–2005), the first chairman of the Friends of the British Library, and later its president. Among its 562 lots are some of the most important atlases ever published, including a stunning run of Ptolemaic atlases. The sales happened in London in October 2005 and October 2006. Part One - 344 pages. Part Two - 368 pages. Hardbound in red cloth with gilt titles on covers and spines and color plates on covers.
B. Important American Voyages and Explorations Property from a Private Collection, published 1985, black & white. This catalogue details the 43 lots of material related to American voyages and explorations, including major works by De Bry, Cortes, Dudley, Hennepin, Mercator and Hondius, Ramusio, Schedel, John Smith, and Vespucci. The sale took place in New York City on Halloween 1985. Hardbound in red cloth with gilt titles on spine and front cover and a plate on front cover.
C. The Library of the Earls of Macclesfield Removed from Shirburn Castle - Part Nine: Voyages, Travel and Atlases, published 2007, printed color. This is the ninth part of the sale of the Sherburn Castle collection, focusing on atlases and books of travel and discovery. Highlights of the 241 items in the sale include Braun and Hogenburg's Civitates Orbis Terrarum, De Bry's Grands Voyages, Sir Robert Dudley's Dell' Arcano del Mare, and Saxton's An Atlas of England & Wales with Giovanni Battista Boazio's account of Drake's voyage. The sale took place in London on March 15, 2007. 301 pages. Hardbound in blue cloth with gilt titles on spine and front cover and a color plate on front cover.
