This well-preserved leaflet was produced by the Psychological Warfare Branch of the U.S. Army. It was dropped by U.S. forces on Japanese troops "anywhere when it is felt that they are ready to surrender." The front of the leaflet includes instructions (in English) to American soldiers that "this leaflet guarantees humane treatment to any Japanese desiring to cease resistance." Below the text is an image of Japanese detainees sharing what appears to be a pack of cigarettes.

The back of the leaflet contains Japanese text and is accompanied by an additional page with the official English translation. A portion of this text is shown below (see images for complete text):

"We respect the way you have fought under difficulties up to now. But our forces are determined to win this war."

"You left your home convinced that Japan would win this war. But when you arrived in a strange land, many hundreds of miles from home, you discovered that the airplanes and other military equipment of the Japanese Army could not compare with those of the Allies."

"It is easy to die but hard to live. Is it not your duty to preserve your life, and help rebuild the future Japan?"
