This important map by Sanson was the standard French map of Asia in the mid-seventeenth century. One of the more interesting features is the extensive coastline of America stretching from Royaume d'Anian to Sierra Nievada, which is separated from Asia by the narrow Detroit d' Anian. The kingdoms of Anian, Quivira, and Albion are shown. Japan is depicted on the Teixiera model, and Korea is depicted as an island. The map extends to include much of the eastern coast of Africa. Decorated with a strapwork title cartouche. Engraved by A. Peyrounin and published by P. Mariette.

A dark impression with contemporary outline color on a bright sheet with a large coat of arms watermark, minor soiling in the image and a few light creases. The bottom margin has been extended with period-correct paper, and a previous owner has added a ribbon tab at left resulting in some paper extending over a sliver of the image. There are dampstains along the edges of the sheet at right and left, with two small holes well away from the image.
