This nice lot features two biblically themed maps from Mortier's Atlas Antiquus. Each map is accompanied by a separate sheet with an alphabetical location index.

A. Carte de la Terre Sainte Divisee Selon les Douze Tribus d'Israel ou sont Exactement Marquez les Voyages de Iesus-Christ &c... This decorative and detailed map of the region covers present-day Israel and Jordan. The map shows the Holy Land divided among the Twelve Tribes, with the travels of Jesus Christ indicated by lightly dotted lines. The pictorial title cartouche includes a scene of Jesus healing the sick, and the distance scale is surmounted by two cartographers. Just above the distance cartouche is a rendering of both sides of a shekel coin. Engraved by J. van Luchtenburg. Reference: Laor #222. Condition: A dark impression on a sheet with the watermarks of the Strasbourg bend and lily and "LLAR." There is a tiny paper flaw in the image at bottom left and a centerfold separation that enters 2" into map image at bottom and has been repaired on verso with archival materials.

B. Carte Particuliere des Pais ou les Apotres ont Preche l'Evangile; des Lieux les Plus Renommez de Leurs Voyages, et de la Route de St. Paul a Rome... Handsome map of the region illustrating the travels of St. Paul as he journeyed from Jerusalem to Rome. The map includes more of Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula than other similar maps, although detail is confined to the coastal regions. Condition: A dark impression on a sturdy sheet with the watermarks of the Strasbourg lily and "CDG" and a hint of printer's ink residue. There is light toning and a few small dampstains along the edges of the sheet.
