This spectacular illustration is an allegorical representation of the people, customs, trade, and achievements of Venice. The view is filled with Latin notes relating to Venetian culture, and extends to Murano, describing its famous crystal and glass. The Rialto Bridge is shown with a note that it was built by 1,000 men and is supported by a single arch. Small vignettes honor Venitians with the invention of wearable glasses and their prowess in ship building. The foreground is filled with a large galleon, a galley boat and two of Venice's signature gondolas. Deftly drawn by Johann Degler and engraved by Joseph a Montelegre.
