This is a fascinating and unusual later edition of Stanley Turner's series of colorful and informative WWII progress maps. Although it is labeled the "Ninth Edition," this edition was published after Victory in Europe Day. Major battles and events are located and dated throughout. The legend identifies Japan as the only remaining Axis power (in dark green), with Manchukuo, Korea, and much of Southeast Asia shown under Axis control (in light green). Much of Europe is colored orange to indicate that it had been reconquered by United Nations. Neutral countries appear in white. Six inset maps show various historical empires at their largest extents, including the Persian Empire, the Empire of Alexander the Great, the Roman Empire, the early Islamic conquests, Europe under Napoleon, and Asia under Genghis Khan. The "greatest penetration by the Germans under Kaiser William 1914-1918" is indicated by a dashed red line. Each inset includes a portrait of its empire's leader and one of his soldiers. Another inset at bottom extends map's coverage to show South Africa. A compass rose-like diagram at right shows the distance and direction of various cities relative to Tokyo. Printed in New York City by International Circulation Co, Inc. Produced by C.C. Petersen Advertising in Toronto. This example is accompanied by the map's original envelope, promising "7 Beautiful Maps in One!"
