This inventive engraving was drawn by Johann Degler and engraved by Joseph a Montelegre, and is an allegorical representation of the people, customs, trade, and achievements of Spain. This scene is centered on a young Philip V, who was proclaimed King of Spain in November 1700, which precipitated the War of the Spanish Succession. Philip V is surrounded by his court, which bring him gifts from faraway lands conquered by the Spanish, including Peru, Mexico, the Mariana Islands, and the Philippines. Beside the king are pillars touting the piety of the Spanish. At far left is a traditional Spanish bull fight and at far right are great theologians and a tribunal, which prevents any "heresy" from entering Spain. In the background, two large galleons bear flags denoting their destinations to Asia and the Americas, to further Spanish colonization and trade.
