A lovely wood-engraved bird's-eye view drawn by Thomas Sulman for The Illustrated London News. Taken from the south, it locates the city proper, East Boston, Cambridge, Brookline, and Roxbury with points of interest including Bunker Hill, State House, Harvard University, Navy Yard, and more. Features great detail of bridges and railways along with a variety of ships and boats in the harbor.
This image was published two weeks after the Great Boston Fire destroyed 65 acres of the city, and presents the city prior to the destruction.
