This promotional brochure consists of a large road map (8 x 29") by Mixer's Motor Map extending from Maine to Florida and 3 detailed strip maps of the "best route" including Poland Spring to New York, New York to Augusta, and Augusta to Miami Beach. Related text promotes travel on “this wonderful highway…two thousand miles of unequalled roads…Hundreds of miles of new, broad, smooth concrete or macadam through State after State…” The maps are surrounded by various advertisements for hotels along the route including The Roosevelt, Bellevue-Stratford, Jefferson, and more. One of the sponsoring hotels noted on the cover is in Waterbury, CT so it is no surprise that the route goes through Waterbury with the map distorting how far out the way it is to travel from Providence through Waterbury to the next major city, New York. Similarly, the starting point is Poland Spring, Maine, another sponsor. This route guide was therefore an effort by hotels to compete with U.S. Highway 1, created in 1926, that circumvented both Waterbury and Poland Spring. Self-folding (4 x 9"). We found no past sales records for this map or institutional examples on OCLC.
