This rare miniature double hemisphere world map features California as an island, in a slender form. The northwestern portion of North America is a vast and vaguely defined terrain. Hollandia Nova (Australia) also features an undefined coastline. Inland detail is limited to simple, haphazardly placed mountains and major rivers. In North America, the only river is the St. Lawrence; in Africa, the Nile is shown with its origins in twin lakes south of the equator. Seller's imprint is contained in an ornate cartouche. Published in A New Systeme of Geography, one of the earliest world atlases produced in England.
