This handsome French map of the United States outlines the emerging railroad network in orange. The southwest is still under control of Confederation Mexicaine. Texas is named and appears to be part of Mexico, although its exact boundaries are left undefined. S. Antonio de Bexar is identified as the capital, and S. Felipe de Austin and Nacogdoches are also located. Aside from some topographical detail, much of the rest of the southwest is blank. In the Great Basin, the lakes Timpanogos and Teguayo appear with conjectural rivers flowing to the Pacific. The District de l'Oregon extends into present-day Canada, reflecting the Oregon boundary dispute. The Midwest consists of Indian districts, including a Huron District in the vicinity of present-day Wisconsin and Minnesota. Capital cities and the early road system are printed on the map in orange, but the state and country boundary lines were added in hand color. Engraved by L. Grenier, with lettering by Bernard. Printed by Mangeon.
