This work by Arthur H. Robinson is the first to trace thematic mapping through its maturity in the mid-nineteenth century. Robinson's study bucks the "paleocartographic bias" in cartographic studies to cover such diverse topics as Edmond Halley, maps of the physical world (including maps of the atmosphere, geomagnetism, geology, and more), population maps, economic maps, medical maps, various new mapping techniques, and much more. 266 pages with 110 illustrations, some of which are in color. Hardbound in blue cloth boards.
