This extraordinary frontispiece appears at the front of Gerard van Loon's history book Aloude Hollandsche Histori der Keyzeren, Koningen, Hertogen en Graaven... (1734). Engraved by F. Morellon la Cave, it is dense with mythological figures in a thicket of clouds, including Fame, Cronos, and, at center, Clio (appropriate enough for a volume of history). There are also putti, angels, tipped scales, and several scrolls.

A dark impression on a lightly toned sheet with a fleur-de-lis coat of arms watermark. There are a couple of minor spots and a small chip in the bottom right blank margin.
