This striking aquatint depicts Cairo by moonlight during the flooding of the Nile. The image was drawn by Dominique Vivant Denon and published in his Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Egypte in 1802, which was later also published in Italian. Vivant Denon was a French artist and diplomat, who was appointed as director of the Louvre by Napoleon after the Egyptian campaign of 1798–1801.
