Uncommon map of the Mediterranean coast of Africa, home to the infamous Barbary pirates. Two maps, one above the other. The top map shows the entire coast from the Canary Islands to the Nile delta and includes the Strait of Gibraltar. The bottom map depicts an enlarged area of present day Algiers, from Mare Ibericum to the island of Malta and a bit of Sicily. Sailing ships and galleys, leopards and lions, and a garland-draped title cartouche ornament the map. Blank verso.

References: Norwich #296; Van der Krogt (Vol. II) #8610:2.

Condition: B

A sharp impression with full contemporary color on a lightly toned sheet with an extraneous crease adjacent to the centerfold. There are some separations along the folds that have been repaired on verso. There are old manuscript ink notations at top right, one of which shows through from the verso just within the map border.
