This uncommon small map of Crete is nicely engraved with a flourishing, banner-style cartouche held aloft by the winged lion of St. Mark brandishing a sword -- the symbol of the Venetian government that ruled Crete prior to the takeover by the Turkish Empire.

A nice impression with contemporary outline color in the map and later color in the cartouche on a lightly toned sheet with a bunch of grapes watermark. There is a bit of marginal foxing and a tiny tear in the top margin.
