This remarkable bird's-eye view captures the fortified city of Florence along the Arno River and the immediate surroundings. Within the town walls the city is filled with streets, squares, public buildings, bridges, and lush gardens. The Duomo Cathedral and Baptistery of St. John fill the center, while the Fortezza da Basso is depicted in the fortified wall at left along with a key to 17 locations. A larger key, with 228 structures listed, is located at bottom right. Flanking the map are depictions of the Pitti Palace, Duomo, and interesting cultural events including gladiator fights, horse racing, and pole climbing. Further decorated by the coat of arms of the House of Medici, which is held aloft by two cherubs. Based on the work of Czech engraver/etcher Wenceslaus Hollar and first published by Jansson in 1657. This is likely a later edition with "Pag. 4." engraved in the top right corner. Printed on two sheets and joined.
