This fascinating engraving of the Moon appeared in F.J. Bertuch's Bilderbuch fur Kinder, an illustrated educational compendium for children published in 237 parts from 1792 to 1830. Its depiction of the Moon appears to be based on Cassini. Craters are numbered and maria are lettered. Below the map is a diagram comparing the diameters of, and elevations on, the Earth, Moon, and Venus. With text in both German and French. An early example of a Moon map designed for the education of children.
