This rare pictorial map of Bryn Mawr College presents the campus in a whimsical light. Several campus buildings are depicted with nice architectural detail, including Goodhart Hall, the Old Library, the Deanery, Taylor Hall, and several residences, among them Radnor, Merion, and Rockefeller. Campus traditions, irreverent happenings, and literary references are shown throughout. There is a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream on the lawn, and Robin Hood's men appear in the wooded area south of the hockey field. Students dance around the Maypole north of Taylor Hall. Elsewhere, they play tennis and field hockey. Near the center of the map, two men have a dust-up, with the assailant quipping, "Two too fat for a path like that!" In the southeast corner, a woman with a ball and chain around her ankle attempts to escape the infirmary. The map is surrounded by an elaborate border with lanterns in the corners, and there is a distance scale with an inchworm on top. A compass rose with the college seal orients the north to top right. "LK" and "DW" are credited with drafting the map, and the map is dated 1928 (the same year Katharine Hepburn graduated from the college with a degree in history and philosophy). Although the title suggests this was issued as a folding map, this example appears to have been printed on a board and issued framed without glass. This is the only example we have found on the market. We have not found any institutional examples, including within Bryn Mawr's own archives. Measures 18.3 x 22.4" with frame.

Condition: B+
Glued down to the board and framed, apparently as issued, with a 2" surface abrasion beneath the compass rose and some marginal soiling. There are some other minor scuffs and abrasions that are mostly confined to the map border and margins. The frame itself has some light wear.
