This scarce bird's-eye view of Washington was drawn by Henry Liebschutz and extends from the Potomac River north to Washington Cathedral and east to Union Station. Buildings related to the university are printed in blue ink, while all other buildings are shown in brown ink and named including the White House, National Monument and Capitol to name a few. At center is a portion of George Washington's will stating his desire to establish a university "in a central part of the United States to which the youths of fortune and talents from all parts thereof might be sent for the completion of their education." Washington's vision began as Columbian College in 1821 and was later renamed after Washington in 1904. Decorated by a compass rose and the city's coat of arms. The verso features a list of the various colleges within the University, a brief history of the school, and the school's seal. Lithographed by the Cornelius Printing Company in Silver Spring, MD.
