This well-preserved leaflet coded "23-J-1" was produced by the Psychological Warfare Branch of the U.S. Army.  It was dropped by U.S. forces on Japanese troops and civilians in the Philippines.  The illustration on the front of the leaflet showing an artistic rendering of a chess match between the United States and Japan. 
The back of the leaflet contains Japanese text and is accompanied by an additional page with the official English translation.  A portion of this text is shown below (see images for complete text): 
"When the Americans landed on Leyte, General Yamashita was caught unprepared and his desperate, last-minute defensive strategy was ineffective, resulting in an enormous sacrifice of human life." 
"General MacArthur has consistently outmaneuvered Yamashita (and other Japanese leaders)...IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTABLE THAT HE HAS ACHIEVED THESE SUCCESSES WITH A MINIMUM OF CASULATIES!" 
"The war steadily draws nearer your beloved Homeland.  Isn't this the fault of your military leaders who are responsible for the loss of hundreds of thousands of valuable lives?"
