This stunning lot of woodcut fish prints come from Pierre Belon's groundbreaking De Aquatilibus..., published in Paris in 1553. The engraving is credited to Pierre Gourdelles. De Aquatilibus is one of the key texts in the foundation of modern ichthyology. The prints here show a stingray, a plaice, a forkbeard, a wrasse, a ruffe, and a castagnole. Each sheet features Latin text.
